Hygiene
A scale and clean removes the plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing can't reach, helping keep your teeth and gums healthy.
What happens at a scale and clean
- We check your teeth and gums
- Remove plaque and hardened tartar (scaling)
- Polish your teeth to remove surface stains
- Show you anything to focus on when brushing and flossing at home
Why it matters
Plaque left on the teeth hardens into tartar, which can lead to bleeding gums, bad breath, decay and gum disease. Regular cleans help prevent these problems, or catch them early.
If you already have bleeding gums or bad breath, give us a call — it's worth having a look sooner rather than later.
We often suggest a scale and clean before other treatment, such as teeth whitening or dental implants.
Common questions
How often should I have a scale and clean?
For most people it's every six months. If you're prone to gum problems we may suggest coming in more often.
Can I claim it on my health fund?
Most extras policies cover a check-up and clean. We use HICAPS, so you can claim at the desk and just pay the gap.
