Inlays and Onlays
When a back tooth has too much damage for a filling but doesn't need a full crown, an inlay or onlay can repair it.
Inlay or onlay?
An inlay fits inside the grooves of the tooth. An onlay also covers one or more of the tooth's cusps (the raised points). Both are made outside the mouth from porcelain or composite resin and then bonded in place.
They're well suited to back teeth with cracks, fractures or moderate decay, and are shaded to match your natural teeth.
What to expect
- First visit: we prepare the tooth, take an impression or scan, and fit a temporary
- Second visit: we check the fit and your bite, then bond and polish the inlay or onlay
