Dentist near Alkimos
Alkimos is full of young families, in Alkimos Beach, Trinity and Shorehaven. We're a family-run practice about 20 minutes north, open Saturdays, and we see kids from their very first teeth.
A suburb full of growing teeth
Alkimos — named for the Greek freighter that ran aground off the coast in 1963 — had about 10,000 residents at the 2021 census, and it's still growing. Many of those are families with young children, and kids are a big part of our day.
Here's roughly what we look at as children grow:
- Around age 2 — a short, relaxed first visit, mostly about getting comfortable in the chair.
- Around age 6 — the first adult molars come through, and we check whether fissure sealants would help protect their grooves.
- School years — a check-up and clean every six months or so, plus a custom mouthguard once they start footy, netball or hockey.
- Around age 12 — the second adult molars arrive. Another look at sealants, and at how the bite is developing.
If we think a child would benefit from seeing an orthodontist, we'll explain why and arrange the referral.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule
Children aged 0–17 whose family gets certain government payments, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, may be eligible for Medicare's Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). It covers basic dental care — check-ups, cleans, X-rays, fillings and more — up to a capped amount over two calendar years.
We bulk-bill eligible children, so there's nothing to pay for covered treatment. You can check eligibility and the remaining balance in your Medicare account on myGov, or ask us when you book and we'll check for you.
Booking around school and work
We're open Saturdays, so kids don't have to miss class for a check-up. If you've got more than one child, ask for back-to-back appointments and do the whole family in one trip.
