Dentist near Wilbinga

Wilbinga is mostly state forest and beach tracks, and the 4WD crowd knows it well. If a tooth breaks or a filling falls out while you're out there, Two Rocks is the first town south, about 20 minutes down Indian Ocean Drive.

A dental first-aid kit for the 4WD

A few small things in the glovebox can make a broken tooth or a lost filling much easier to manage until you can get to a dentist:

  • Pain relief you know you can take, and the packet so you can follow the dose.
  • A small container with a lid, and a few sachets of sterile saline or a carton of long-life milk, for a knocked-out tooth or a broken piece.
  • Clean gauze, to bite on if a tooth or gum is bleeding.
  • Temporary filling material from a pharmacy, to cover a hole where a filling has come out.
  • Dental floss, for food stuck between teeth.
  • An instant cold pack, for a knock to the face.

If a filling or crown comes out

A lost filling or crown usually isn't an emergency, but it's worth getting seen within a few days. In the meantime:

  • Keep the crown in a clean container and bring it with you — often it can be cemented back on.
  • Chew on the other side, and avoid very hot, cold or sugary food on that tooth.
  • Cover the hole with temporary filling material if you have some. Never use superglue to put a crown back on.
  • If the tooth becomes painful or swollen, call us the same day.

Coming in from the forest

Only eight people lived in Wilbinga at the 2021 census. Most of it is State Forest 65, with the Wabling Hill fire lookout and the shacks near Wilbinga Beach. Wherever you've come from, it's a short run south on Indian Ocean Drive to us. Call before you set off so we know you're coming.

After a knock to the head — dizziness, vomiting, a bad headache or any loss of consciousness — go to a hospital emergency department or call 000 before worrying about teeth.

Is a lost filling an emergency?
Usually not, but get it seen within a few days so the tooth doesn't crack or decay further. If it's painful or swollen, call us the same day.
