Dentist near Merriwa
Merriwa is home to two RAAF retirement villages. We welcome veterans with DVA cards, and anyone whose teeth need a little more care as the years go by — about 30 minutes up Marmion Avenue.
Veterans and DVA cards
We see patients with Department of Veterans' Affairs cards. Bring your card to every appointment, and let us know when you book so we can check what's covered.
- Gold Card — covers a range of clinically necessary dental care, such as check-ups, cleans, fillings, extractions and dentures.
- White Card — covers dental care for conditions DVA has accepted as related to your service. We'll confirm your eligibility with DVA before treatment.
- Some treatments, such as crowns, bridges and root canal treatment, may need DVA's approval before we start. We'll send the request and let you know when it's through.
Teeth change as you get older
Keeping your own teeth for life is more common than it used to be, and older teeth need a slightly different kind of care. At your check-ups we keep an eye on:
- Dry mouth — many common medicines reduce saliva, which raises the risk of decay. Bring a list of what you take; sipping water through the day can help.
- Gum recession — as gums draw back, the exposed roots can become sensitive and decay more easily.
- Older fillings and crowns — they wear over the decades, and some will eventually need replacing.
- Brushing with stiff or sore hands — an electric toothbrush or a thicker handle can make it much easier.
Dentures, partials and implants
If you're missing teeth, there's usually more than one way to replace them: a full or partial denture, a bridge, or implants. We'll talk through what suits your mouth, your health and your budget.
Even with a full denture and no natural teeth, a check-up once a year is worth it. We check the fit, and the gums and soft tissues underneath.
A family member or carer is welcome to come into the appointment with you.
